Senator William "Mo" Cowan (D-Mass.) today issued the following statement on the passing of Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.):

"Frank Lautenberg was a true public servant. After bravely defending our country during World War II, Frank brought that fighting spirit to the Senate where he was a voice for the people of New Jersey for decades. We saw his love for the state where he was born and raised just last October when Hurricane Sandy damaged homes and businesses, and caused injuries and deaths, in its wake. Frank immediately rolled up his sleeves and spent the long days and nights keeping the hardworking spirit of New Jersey alive, and helping to rebuild. His longtime commitment to creating sensible gun reforms, and his bipartisan work to protect families from toxic chemicals, has helped to save lives. Frank's passion for serving others and willingness to reach across the aisle to improve the status quo will be greatly missed in the halls of the Senate. And I will be forever grateful for the warmth he showed me during my time here. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time."
